On the occasion of “World Family Day,” the NGO “Women in Action and Solidarity” (WASO) exhibited works produced from sewing classes that commenced in March last year. The project which was sponsored by Barclays Bank aim at helping women gain semi skills in sewing.
The event took place at LUNGOS and was deemed a celebration through exhibition and graduation of accomplishment of the sewing participants. The event was attended Minister Peter Sinon, who opened the exhibition saying:
“Sa legzibisyon ozordi se en legzanp konkret lakonpannyman ki en NGO i kapab fer pour ed son bann manm vin endepandan. Sa legzibisyon i en testaman solidarite e ‘sisterhood’ ki madanm Seselwa i kapab annan ant zot. Zot pe montre zot kapasite travay ansanm, met de kote diferans, met de kote bann pti konfli personnel ki mon asire i leve tanzantan dan travay pour zot vin ansanm e akonpli en latas … pour zot, pour zot fanmiy, pour la nasyon osi.”
Mrs Jane Jolicoeur a seamstress, was recruited to facilitate the classes whereby she taught the ladies how to work a machine and sew a wide variety of items, such as school uniform and bed sheets.
The classes were done 3 days a week (Monday to Wednesdays) at times on Saturdays for those on holidays or work break.
Through the event WASO was also aiming to advertise the sewing program that is still running up to now.
