The HIV/Aids Support Organisation said its recognition at the recent Ceps Voluntary Award 2024, held at the Eden Bleu Hotel, was a result of almost three decades of relentless fight against HIV/Aids in Seychelles.
It won the Best Organisation Award presented by Vice-President Ahmed its chairperson, Justin Freminot, said would be used to fund ongoing HIV/ Aids awareness programme locally and other sexually-transmitted diseases.
“The organisation has taken pride in becoming the winner of Ceps Voluntary Award,” stated Mr Freminot.
“The HIV/Aids Support Organisation (Haso) volunteers have stood together in solidarity to face the many challenges that hamper the progress of the positive approaches in combatting this epidemic. We have shown a lot of devotion and compassion in our commitment to better the lives of people living with HIV Aids and for this we should be commended,” said the chairperson, who also commended the dedicated people who have supported Haso during that process of caring for those infected and affected.
“Let this award reaffirm our commitment to continue our fights to reaching the global goal of eradicating new cases of HIV infection by the year 2030. Best wishes for the Year 2025,” he concluded.
The not-for-profit organisation started operating in 1991 but was formally registered in 1995. Its aims are to reduce the national incident of HIV/Aids, protect the rights of people infected and affected by HIV/Aids by eliminating stigmatisation and educate the public on HIV/Aids transmission and related diseases. Its role complements the work of the Ministry of Health in disseminating information about HIV/Aids to the population.
During its nearly three decades of with many regional and international organisations, has hosted several local training sessions for its members and institutions engaging with the target group and attended major international conferences.
The CEPS Voluntary Award hosted by the Citizens Engagement Platform Seychelles gives prominence to volunteerism and celebrate the remarkable contributions of volunteers who have made a lasting impact on their communities.
