Civil Society from Seychelles, East Timor and Tanzania comes together under the EITI for sharing of experiences.
Members of civil society organisations in Seychelles have today attended a sharing of experience workshop as part of the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative process. The workshop is an initiative of the Seychelles Petroleum Multi Stake holder Group, of which the Seychelles civil society has 4 representatives.
Civil society representatives from Tanzania and East Timor are currently in the Seychelles and shared their experiences and challenges faced since setting up their own respective multi stakeholder group.
Civil society in Seychelles has been engaged from the very beginning, when in October of 2013, a consultant with the World Bank, Ms Harnack, introduced the initiative to then members of Liaison Unit of Non Governmental Organisations (LUNGOS).
From this initial meeting, three more have been held with civil society. Seychelles is a candidate country of the EITI and as it stands, four representatives from the civil society sector have been appointed on the Seychelles EITI national multi stakeholder group.
Today’s workshop has permitted representatives to learn of the role played by civil society in the EITI process.
